#KCCM Castor Oil Challenge Check-In

#KCCM CASTOR OIL CHALLENGE CHECK-IN

Today is officially my 8th week of the #KCCM Winter Castor Oil Challenge. I've never taken part in one before, so I'm really proud of myself for sticking to it. I've been applying JBCO to my scalp at night, 3 times a week, and although the challenge finishes on the 1st of March 2013, I think I'll probably continue the practice, because my hair and scalp seem to be in pretty great shape.

Length check:
At about Week 5 we were asked to take pictures for a length check. I'm not really into length checking, so this was a first. I'm not sure I've noticed any major difference, but it seems to look and feel good so Im pleased.
I've read a lot of sources that refer to Rosemary Oil as being a great essential oil for stimulating growth, so during Week 6 I decided to add a few drops to my JBCO, but not too much as Im not a fan of the smell.

One thing I've noticed is how great my twist outs seem to be since using castor oil to seal my ends. I cant apply it to the whole strand of my hair as it makes my hair feel gloopy and greasy, and too sticky to manage; but a bit at the root and a bit at the tip seems to be giving great results.

  1. Hi Crystal, so proud of your growth, I did mine for 2 years with great growth then got overwhelmed and cut it all off. I now sport a very short textured look and I am having fun. However I am very impressed with your persistence.I have 2 daughters and purchased this very castor oil, because my second daughter hair was falling out, and the castor oil is helping but boy that SCENT!!! really nasty, I try to mask it with other oils but it is a job, any suggestions?

    1. Hi Chelsea,
Thanks so much for your kind words and support. I really hope the castor oil helps with your daughter's hair.

Hhmmm, I'm now concerned that I may have a really bad sense of smell because I dont notice a strong smell from my castor oil at all, Lol. Its really very faint, which is one of the reasons I quite like it, and I tend to find the smell of what ever leave-in conditioner I'm using, more noticeable than the castor oil.
Unfortunately the only thing I can think of is playing around with essential oils as you said. Maybe Lemon grass oil, lavender oil or even cinnamon oil.
If I come across any other suggestions I'll let you know. xx

    1. Hi Bria,
I bought this Tropic Island brand from www.sheabuttercottage.co.uk.
I've also discovered that you can buy the Sunny Isle brand of JBCO from quite a few of the hair stores in Brixton on Atlantic Road.
      Hope that helps xx
